Each entry is followed by the issue and page number in bold type. From issue 134 extra information is being generated. The author of the article is included where known. The meaning of Article type letters in brackets are shown in the table opposite.

The numbering system has been inconsistent over the years to cater for the illogical among us.

The Issue Numbers: 17-46 were indexed by year and month rather than number. Issue 4 had no number! Issue 82.01 had 1982:50p. In the change over from indexing by year/month to sequential numbers both schemes were printed on the covers from issue 46. Thus number 51 was 1983:2, 52 1983:2, 53 1983:4, 54 1983:2, 55 1983:5! Dual(sic) indexing was dropped from issue 57, however two issues were numbered 57 the second October 1983 is indexed as 58. Two issues were numbered 59 the second December 1983 is indexed as 60. Two issues were numbered 76 The second June 1985 is indexed as 77. Two issues were numbered 121 the second July/August 1989 is indexed as 122. Numbers 72 & 73 were printed as Jan & Feb 1985 Issue:1 & 2. they are indexed as 72 & 73.

The Name: from 1 to 67 the magazine was called Socialist Review, from issue 68 to 144 it was called Socialist Worker Review, from issue 145 onwards it was called Socialist Review.

The Editors: from 1 to 16 was Alex Callinicos, from issue 1980:1 to 1981:11 Chris Harman, from issue 81.01(1982:50p!) to 67 Colin Sparks, from 68 to 284 Lindsey German, from 285 onwards Peter Morgan.

The Indexes:1-50 was included with issue 56, 1-66 with issue 67, 1-100 with issue 100. 1-133 was available from issue 135, 1-155 from issue (?) and 1-195 from issue 200

Erratum slip included with issue 68: The following correction needs to be made in the article "THE ORIGINS OF THE FAMILY". On column one page 18 the paragraph beginning "The division into classes" through to the end of the next paragraph which ends "differs from preceeding horticultural labour" should appear on page 19 column one before the words "As C Gordon Childe has noted"

From issue 287 it has been printed in full colour
